Nokia tried it, in any possible way, but the fact is nobody really needs N-Gage games anymore. Yep. Nokia announced that this is the end. Thanks for trying hard Nokia. Better focus on cheap solid mobiles, that’s your know-how !

-20% turnover and -60% profits, these are the last fresh quarterly news from Nokia. Once the masive n°1 in the mobile phone industry, today just a survivor. Nokia still holds 1/3 of the market, but unfortunately the less profitable low-end one. To me there is only one question about Nokia : when are they gonna start selling tomatoes ?

Figures don’t lie. Nokia’s Ovi Store reached 10 millions downloads in the first 3 months, where Apple’s AppStore created a mobile software tsunami with 100 millions downloads in the first… 2 months !
This is to remind companies (even big) that a follower strategy is really not enough these days !

Nokia Booklet 3G !

Finally Nokia gives birth to a netbook, called Nokia Booklet 3G.
This is the first time the Finnish giant goes out of the core mobile space. And I must say this little guys is pretty attractive. Not only it looks fine (aluminium body a-la-Apple’s design), but comes with loads of connectivity : Wifi, 3G, SIM card, Bluetooth, A-GPS. They also pretend it’ll run for 12 hours. OK, count on 6 which will make your full working day anyway. The thing remains tiny with 1,25 kg and 10,1” screen, 2 cm thin and runs Windows (7 ?) on an Atom base core. Of course you’ll get all the Ovi crap inside (yes, crap, depiste of the 54 millions users so far). Question : how do you recognize crap with ease ? Simple : you can live without it !
So, at the end of the day, it seems Nokia finally got the wake-up call (if no cold wash) in the smartphone field and now wants to take a little bit of time ahead of Apple in the netbook market. Not to be stamped forever as the eternal opportunity loser.
Price will mostly depend on the carrier subsidize. Bonus feature is you can hot-swap the SIM card, wich means you could easily use your existing 3G data plan. But in hope to collect some decent margins here, Nokia will mostly ask you for +/- $800 without 3G plan. So to meet the netbook’s market pricing, the only way will be to get the Nokia Booklet with a dedicated contract.
And now what this will change ?
Boooo, almost nothing I guess. Nokia must be realistic, despite this good looking + fully loaded gizmo, the brand is far far away from being the sexiest high-end hype. So far, and for 99% of the curstomers, when you carry a Nokia it’s mainly and overall because it was damn cheap to afford !
Paradox for a brand that dreams to be THE premium brand.
