Ruppert Murdoch and Microsoft Against Google !

Rupert-Murdoch- and microsoft against google.jpg

You already know that Ruppert wants a fight with Google. He plans to remove all Murdoch media content from Google News, because he thinks it’s a content robbery.

Everybody is laughing at him, saying he will simply vanish in cyber space if not visible within Google.

Well, might be. Or not.

Steve The Messiah !

balmer the IT messiah

Our beloved Steve Balmer was touring in Europe this week, to introduce Windows Mobile 6.5. What an excitement.

The Guru of all Gurus waved the word of wisdom to the dark-ages crowd.

The first Revelation from Steve was about the iPhone. He stated ‘”the iPhone is not the phone of the future”. So true. The iPhone is the phone of the present. It’s not labeled Microsoft, and Windows Mobile 6.5 is nothing but another devote follower of the touch OS standards established by Apple.

The second Revelation was that Netbooks are not critical for the future of the IT industry. So true. They just forced Microsoft to revamp Windows XP when they need some fat cash from Windows… 7!

The third Revelation came about the ‘cloud’, that is seen as the future of Internet. So true. But hey, unless you erased your personal memory overnight with no backup, cloud computing is only a marketing term to describe what the Internet is since the first minute.

The Apocalypse. This is what can happen to MS if Steve remains what he is.

Good luck ! ;-)

Windows 7 : Do More With Less !

Steve Balmer was on stage last Sept 29th in San Francisco. He was promoting the vast benefits of Windows 7 and other happy tools. He once more insisted on the ‘Do more with less’ baseline. And I must admit I love that baseline. Do more, with less. A perfect story for a tough economy. The belief that for example you will perform better with less effort. And if performance means money, Steve simply knows how to bring you extra money by staying in bed all day !

Interested ?

Of course ! But to reach that Nirvana, please first get your paid copy of Windows 7 as a consumer, and add Windows Server and Exchange as a business. Yes, of course, Microsoft is still using that old marketing trick coming from the deepest ages : pay to save money. I like it. Damn funny.

I mean, that people obey to it. Read the rest of this entry »

Windows 7 Crap Party : How To Video !

Microsoft’s idea of the year was to arrange Windows 7 launch parties organised by motivated consumers. They even released this ‘monkey-proof-how-to-setup-my-party’ video, and reached by the way a certain nirvana of marketing lame… Congrats!

Dear Microsoft, can I use my cat and red fish as guests for my launch party ? Hu ? ;-)

Xbox Live : Donwload Full Games !

images Xbox Live : Donwload Full Games !

With it’s new Xbox Live updated, Microsoft is getting closer to sell games via direct download. Not only community and Xbox1 games, but also Xbox 360 ones. For sure the first line-up won’t be amazing as the titles are from 2007 or so, just to keep retailers asleep.

But in case of success, gaming will jump into the direct download model, that’s a fact. Dematerialized games distribution seems so evident that we should think for just only one good reason why this wouldn’t be mainstream anytime soon ? Why would you need or want to get out and pick your gaming disk when you can download the game, and eventually pay less ?

Does it means the end of physical game retailers ? Of course, someone has to sell the consoles (which at this point can’t be downloaded :-) ). But hey, any corner store can do that. So will the customer still be in need of dedicated distributors to feed him ?

World is changing my friend, and the mobile one as shown us that we like download (AppStore to name one). If you earn a living by reselling games, please wake-up and get yourself a real job ! ;-)

Microsfot + Yahoo = $earch !

microsoft yahoo

So they did it. But of course, it’s an official announcement from Steve Ballmer + Carol Bartz (Yahoo!’s CEO). All in all, no more a surprise but a certain industry twist. Seems the siesta is over, isn’t it ?

The deal runs for 10 years and only “Bing search” will be used by both, implementing when useful parts of Yahoo!’s technologies.

So now, what does it mean ?

Well, mainly, this means years ahead before the pair will seriously be able to challenge Google in terms of generated revenue through search & advertising. Which means Google has more than necessary time in hands. This is the time barrier.

Ok, let’s say they made it and the pair holds 1/3 of the online ad market. What Google will do or be doing for a while ? Yes, you’re right, discounts, bulk packages, grand openings etc etc. Sure, Microsoft has cash, today at least. Let’s call it the margin barrier.

And then, if you’re asked to tell witch is the most creative company in between Microsoft, Yahoo! and Google, what would be your answer ? Well, even if you’re a devoted fan of Microsoft and Yahoo!, as a matter of fact, they didn’t bought and empowered the right technology that drives the online ad market. Google did it. Does it mean Google will rule forever ? Nope. It means there’s a third barrier to overcome : the R&D one.

But that said, this deal is a great thing, even for Google !

Press release.
