Is the Web 2.0 a Revolution ?

Tons of fellows cry out loud that the social web, the so called web 2.0, is a pure revolution.
Revolution for the individual by making them able to participate an express himself within communities.
Revolution for the brands, because now they are supposed to listen to that individual, in hope to continue selling their stuff.
C’mon. Think a second.
What is the business model of Internet so far ?
Right, ads.
Who’s writing Google’s terms and conditions ?
Right, the brands, the advertisers.
Are web communities a threat to brands ?
Sure not. It’s a huge opportunity to know better the wallet behavior of the individuals, thus sell more efficiently.
Is this a win for the brands ?
Sure it is.
Is this a win for the individual ?
Not sure. Consumers certainly can compare better, but lost in the ocean, they definitely keep up with the known brands.
