Windows 7 : the REAL Minimum Requirements !

seven Windows 7 : the REAL Minimum Requirements !

So you plan to indulge yourself with a brand new Windows 7 install ?

Well, not a bad idea as Seven (see the pic ;-) ) is by far the best OS from Microsoft, ever.

But…

… it won’t fit anywhere !

If you get 7 with you next new PC, that’s the perfect case.

Boot, Boom, Enjoy !

Some even say you’ll experience the “Mac” fluid feeling, but hey, do not exaggerate.

So, which is the lowest buddy you can install, and run, 7 on ?

Microsoft says :

- 1 GHz processor

- 1 Gb RAM

- DirectX9 card

- 16 Gb disk space

That’s more or less what you get from a netbook these days.

Truth is after several installs on such platforms (7 RC), I figured out that yes, you can install it, you can open your browser and surf the net, but soon (a few weeks) you’ll get lag lag lag. Even with Aero deactivated the tiny CPU is just too small, not to mention the low end hard drives you’ll find in there.

7 comes to life from 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 Gb RAM, 256 Mb DX10 graphic card. If your machine is under that, or 2 years old, 7 won’t be anything better than Vista after a few months of use. Just because it’s Vista foundation and thus needs POWER.

That’s when you really can test an OS, after several months of daily use. Will it remain smooth with your loads of open tabs, hundreds of thousands files, and multiple install/uninstall sharewares and so on ?

And if you want the full experience, don’t forget the extra bonus : the touch features, the only real new thing in 7.

You understand now why despite the general positive acceptance of 7, this one is again an hardware seller, as every previous Windows release.

And Xmas is not that far ! ;-)
