Due to the impressive impact of Twitter on the way we produce and search information, maybe Google is about to deliver a major revolution.
Since last may, if you publish any kind of information online (blog, forum, etc…), you may have noticed mesurable improvement of Googlebot’s crawling speed (delay in between publishing and presence in search results based on used keywords). This new algorythm seems to adore a simple rule : the hotter the topic, the faster the crawl.
Despite this is still a work in progress, you can see what I’m talking about directly from Google’s search results. Here is an example using a customed search link. This one delivers the results of published information in the past hour using the keyword “Obama” :
http://www.google.com/search?q=obama&as_qdr=h
Second link will show the information published in the past minute:
http://www.google.com/search?q=obama&as_qdr=n
And the third one brings the realtime info from the last second (if any) :
http://www.google.com/search?q=obama&as_qdr=s
This is very new for Google to bring you some fresh info ! :-)
Idea behind is of course to catch up the ‘realtime’ waggon started by Twitter. But not only. Keep in mind that Google’s mission on Earth remains to be the only-media-fits-all… phew!
Now the value of information in such a perspective won’t be anymore WHO published it, but WHEN it was published. Isolated individuals with the efficient/genuine info can that way always beat the New York Times, and rank on top of the first search page !
This also means that search engine optimization rules are about the do the grand switch: from how trusted I am, to how fast AND trusted I am. Which means extra work effort to keep the pace and thus extra cost to produce info when time definitely rules.
If Google makes it mainstream, it’ll certainly be the day one of the return of the premium content : PAID fresh/instant trusted content VS FREE crap from the rest of Internet.
And by the way you’ll also switch from an information user life to an information customer one, happy to finally also enjoy that old business model in the digital space ! ;-)
