Google Data Liberation !

Tekosaur.com: liberty thumb Google Data Liberation !

Finally Goggle made it official this monday : they now made it easier to remove your data from their services.

Of course, this may sound weirdo as the daily online war is more the opposite way : how to put my data in Google and make it seen ?

Well, in some cases, you’ll need to remove your personnal bits. Like is you plan to change your webmail from gmail to another one fitting better your need (yes this can happen).

The service called Google Data Liberation applies right now to core products like Gmail and Blogger, and will soon hit Docs and Sites.

So far, trying to remove a piece of your personal data from Google was just a pain in the ass. Remember that idiot forum post you made in 2002 that you still can find in first search results page, from your name as the search keyword ?

It was more or less like a trial to convince them to remove it. They wanted to know all the facts of who is the real ‘owner’ of that post, usually they were escaping from it with the flat argument that you should contact the owner of the forum server, as Google is just an upper-layer index. OK thanks. But if the foryum is dead for years and the post is still within Google results ? (BTW, if you seek SEO magic, try forums, no better SEO machine around, writes Internets foreva!).

OK, old days.

Let’s hope this is Day 1 of the era where you’re able to recover your rights, and copyrights, upon the data you own, legally, that’s for sure ! ;-)
