Seems 3D technology is coming soon to your living room.
Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer has announced at IFA to release the world’s first domestic 3D TV within 2010. And not only Sony has plans for 3D TV, but also for 3D in the PS3, Vaio computers and Blu-ray players. Wooo ! You’ll have to keep your 3D glasses on all day ! :-)
Yes of course, that 3D still requires you to wear glasses. With special shutters that recreate the 3D effect from a flat image. Hello headaches !
Pricing of the first 3D TV sets is supposed to stand over $3.000, as a starter. Expensive headaches I say !
It’s funny but I personally don’t believe a second that home 3D will rocket with mandatory glasses on. The real 3D kick-off will definitely be without glasses. ‘True 3D’ as marketers won’t miss to name it (so brilliant marketers…).
Hey, and how much will you then sell your $3.000 3D TV with glasses on eBay to get the ‘True 3D’ one ? Hu hu hu ! Especially knowing that Sony won’t long be the only player and that different 3D standards will battle to rule that new market. So imagine the eBay price if you also picked the built-to-die 3D format ? Like HD-DVD vs Blu-ray… You’d better start a museum of dead standards ! ;-)
